Karma goes both ways, and I admit, I favor the ones who work so hard to be in my good graces. - Karmen

Cipher

“Wow, so you’re an angel?” The annoying human chattered away in his ear as they sat on top of the Eiffel Tower. Well, as high as they could sit.

“No,” he grunted as he watched the specks of humanity mill about underneath them, living their lives, sinning with abandon. One random couple was sexing it up in the bushes close by. At least he was syphoning a little of the sin to assuage his grace.

He was never one to turn down a little indulgence.

“Then how do you describe your wings then? And the moving through space thing?” she asked in a droll voice, as if she believed she had him backed into a corner.

“We’re Keepers, and don’t worry, I know you won’t share our secrets.” And she wouldn’t. Even if he couldn’t see into a person’s soul the way Death, Judgment, or even Karmen could, he could see her aura was bright and shining. No matter what happened around her, she wouldn’t betray them. Not that anyone would believe her anyway.

“Uh, cool.” She wrapped the new jacket that he’d found for her tighter around her body as the wind whipped around them. “So this is cool. But why here?”

“You wanted to see Paris, did you not?” He kicked his legs, trying to think about what Karmen was doing without him or who she was doing it with.

Just the brief glimpse of Bish over Karmen had his blood boiling. And his heart burning. Didn’t she understand, every time he witnessed her with someone else where she actually looked happy, it had made him feel less?

And that wasn’t a feeling that Cipher was used to. It was one thing if someone joined their love fests as a prop or just a way to spice up their sex life. But he could always tell when she had a connection with someone else. That’s when he couldn’t take it and ended up always tossing the third wheel out on their ass.

He had seen that connection in Karmen’s eyes when she looked at Bish. Hell, Bish was already gone for her, and it made him wonder if the vengeance angle had been a ploy this whole time.

Nah… He’d really liked that human of his. Only his heartbreak hadn’t been quite as devastating as he’d led Cipher to believe when they’d started drinking together.

The question was, could he win Karmen back? And if he could, how could he keep her all to himself?

Those sweet, luscious curves, the taunting intelligence in her gorgeous violet eyes, and that damning smirk that drove him batshit crazy for her any time she directed it at him. He didn’t want to share that with anyone else.

He wanted to bask eternally in the heat of her love and burn from the edge of her fury, because when she was in the midst of her most unforgiving karma, their lovemaking was explosive.
